Impact Rated and Energy Efficient Windows

Impact windows are extremely energy efficient. Our windows are designed and tested to meet and/or surpass hurricane force winds. Our vinyl and aluminum window frame options for impact windows meet strict building code requirements and have wonderful efficiency properties. Impact window glass is enhanced and manufactured by bonding multiple layers of glass together with a plastic interlayer also known as a glazing and applied via a ‘laminate procedure’. This glazing or interlayer of an impact window can greatly impact its energy efficiency and can affect how much of an impact the window can absorb when it is struck. Many impact windows also offer a Low-E (low emissivity or Florida-E) coating. Low-E consists of a metallic coating that is microscopic in thickness. This coating reflects and filters out harmful UV rays that, while letting in quite a bit of natural light, tend to increase the heat coming in from the outside. The Low-E coating helps prevent excessive heat transfer from outside into the house. This in turn can drastically improve a home’s overall energy efficiency because it reduces how often your air conditioning system needs to be turned on in order to cool the space down. Lastly, a professionally done impact window installation (with optimum air sealing, for example) can increase and retain your home or business’ energy efficiency tenfold and is just as important as the materials themselves.
